Program Description:

The Choate Summer Program in China immerses students in the Chinese culture while dramatically improving fluency in four essential language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The five-week program, located primarily in Beijing, is comprised of one month's study of spoken and written Chinese at the Beijing Language Institute. Classes are taught by experienced, native speakers.

During the academic portion of the program, students travel on weekend excursions, exploring China and its culture. Typical weekend excursions include: Great Wall and Ming Tomb; shopping in Silk Alley; Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven; Forbidden City, Palace Museum, Beijing Opera and Laoshe Tea House. The group then enjoys a final 8-day excursion through China.
